This Midcentury-Inspired Elm Thicket Custom Home Is an Architectural Triumph

Elm Thicket hosts one of the most eclectic architectural landscapes in Dallas. It’s one of those neighborhoods that encourages progressive designs and inspires imaginative builds. Whether it’s a sleek contemporary, an eco-conscious transitional, or something that defies convention, this community encourages what’s next. It’s no wonder this one-of-a-kind, owner-designed Midcentury homage easily fits the Elm Thicket ethos.

When we found out about an MCM inspired by Joseph Eichler that was built in 2017, we couldn’t resist.  The three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,977-square-foot modern masterpiece at 7515 Linwood Ave. is as rare as it is remarkable. So, we knew we’d have to take a peek.

From the outside, you’d think they crafted this home at the cutting edge of a post-war real estate market. The hallmarks of that California-style Midcentury abound in arresting fashion. From the low-pitched roofline to the timber inlaid overhanging porch, it’s a truly ambitious exterior. Immediately indicative of MCM, the cantilevered courtyard brings outdoor living to the forefront.

“A lot of these proportions with a home of this size is a really rare find. Not just in this neighborhood but across the city,” said Kevin McGovern, listing agent at Compass RE Texas. “The lot is 200 feet in depth, which really makes the home stand out, giving it plenty of space to really come together. The owner actually designed the home and was part of the building crew. Therefore, it’s made with impeccable craftsmanship from the ground up.”

Then, the interior sets you back on your heels. Imagined with a high degree of sophistication, this home is sleek, stylish, and set in an era of innovation. The floor plan is open and inviting, showcasing modern lines, industrial accents, and incredible taste.

With the main living, dining, and kitchen all laid across the main level, entertaining is encouraged, and interactions are effortless. Overhead, a flex landing quite literally elevates this modern design with steel framing and a spiral staircase.

At the true heart of the home, the expansive kitchen features not one but two impressive 10-foot islands complete with The Galley culinary system. Here, top-of-the-line Wolf induction cooktops, two Miele ovens, and a Miele coffee station bring culinary experiences into the 21st century.

“I really love the cabinetry in this home,” said McGovern. “It’s a European style, finished with automotive paint. It’s also soft-close with touch latches to really give it more of a modern feel.”

The primary suite offers a cozy retreat outfitted with comfort and convenience in mind. With a sliding glass entrance to the exterior living space, this room is flooded with light and filled with possibilities.

Then, the ensuite bathroom further emphasizes the Midcentury interpretation. With pristal block accents, sealed concrete flooring, and course stone, it’s an updated take on that iconic style. Dual vanities and double showerheads give it that extra luxury appeal.

Around every corner, the style of this home is cohesive and intentional. With a multitude of bedrooms and bathrooms, there’s more than enough space to accommodate any type of resident.

Finally, the backyard provides seamless outdoor living experiences any time of year. With a generously sized patio, sliding doors to the living room and bedroom, and ample space, it’s ideal for entertaining guests or enjoying peaceful moments.

If you’re in the market for a Midcentury with modern flair and the personal touch, this Elm Thicket example is one-of-a-kind.
