The Christmas Boat Parade goes past Mariner's Mile more than two hours after its 6:30 p.m. start. The start time is when the 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade leaves the tip of Lido Isle each night from Wednesday, December 16, through Sunday, December 20. On the parade committee's own 2026 route map, the boats get to Newport Sea Base at 8:39 p.m. and to City Cruises on Mariner's Mile at 8:42.
For anyone living on the bluff above West Coast Highway, that gap changes the plan. The parade starts and finishes at the tip of Lido Isle and runs a 14-mile course around Newport Harbor. The water directly below Cliff Haven comes in the parade's last stretch, so the evening down there runs on a late clock. People who show up at 6:30 wait two hours in December air. People who plan for the late pass get dinner, a drone show and front-row boats in that order.
The last 25 minutes, mark by mark
The committee's 2026 map lists 57 timed points around the harbor. These are the ones on the western harbor, from the bay off Balboa Bay Resort to the finish:
| Map time | Point on the route |
|---|---|
| 8:35 p.m. | Balboa Bay Resort |
| 8:38 p.m. | Orange Coast College Crew Base |
| 8:39 p.m. | Newport Sea Base |
| 8:42 p.m. | City Cruises / Mariner's Mile |
| 8:43 p.m. | Rusty Pelican Restaurant |
| 8:44 p.m. | Billy's at the Beach; Louie's by the Bay |
| 8:45 p.m. | The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar |
| 8:46 p.m. | Lido Marina Village |
| 8:47 p.m. | Malibu Farm; Lido Bottle Works |
| 8:48 p.m. | HanaHaus |
| 8:50 p.m. | Lido Park / Lido Bridge |
| 8:53 p.m. | Via Lido North Genoa Beach |
| 9:00 p.m. | Finish, tip of Lido Isle |
All of these times are estimates for the lead boat. Newport Sea Base's own event page says the parade becomes visible there at 8:37, two minutes before the map's time. Plan to be in place a few minutes early.
Where the boats spend the two hours before that
The route explains the late arrival. Right after the 6:30 start, the fleet heads east from Lido. It passes the Lido Isle Bridge at 6:45 and the tip of the Lido Peninsula at the Rhine Channel at 6:49, then reaches Marina Park at 6:54. From there the timeline follows the long eastern loop:
- The Balboa Fun Zone and the Balboa Pavilion at 7:15.
- Pirate's Cove at 7:32 and China Cove at 7:33.
- The Balboa Island Bridge at 7:45, then around the island to its North Bayfront at 8:07.
- The PCH Bridge at 8:26 and Bay Shores Community Beach at 8:30.
- Back west to Balboa Bay Resort at 8:35, where the table above begins.
So the western harbor gets the parade twice on the same night: once near Lido in the first twenty minutes, and again in the last twenty-five. Lido Park and the Lido Bridge, at 8:50, are about the last public stretch of shore the boats pass before the finish.
What fits into the early evening
The drone shows are what fill the time before the boats come back. For 2026 the committee has expanded the shows to two launch points, one over Balboa Bay Resort and one over Peninsula Park near the Fun Zone, so they can be seen from both ends of the harbor. The Balboa Bay Club shows are the ones over the western harbor:
- Wednesday, December 16: 6:00 and 8:15 p.m.
- Thursday, December 17, through Sunday, December 20: 6:15 and 8:15 p.m.
The late show at 8:15 is the useful one. It goes up twenty minutes before the first boats reach the resort at 8:35, so it works as a cue that the parade is coming back. Opening night has one more early event. A fireworks display goes off from the Newport Pier at about 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, as long as conditions allow it.
Restaurants along the western harbor plan their parade dinners around the late pass. Billy's at the Beach on Mariner's Mile is serving a three-course parade dinner December 16 through 20 for $100 per person plus tax and gratuity. The restaurant suggests booking a table no later than 8:20, since it expects the boats around 8:44. At Balboa Bay Resort, A+O Restaurant | Bar applies special reservation policies and food-and-beverage minimums from 5:00 p.m. to close on all five parade nights. The A+O minimums start more than three hours before the boats reach the resort, so an early reservation there is a long dinner by design.
A seat at the Sea Base, priced by section
On the western harbor, reserved seating at the water's edge is at the Newport Sea Base, 1931 West Coast Highway. Its 2026 schedule matches the late pass. The facility opens to pre-registered guests at 6:00 p.m., seating begins at 7:00, and each night's session is listed as 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. All proceeds go to the Sea Base's youth programs.
| Section | What it is | Capacity | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1, Yellow | Lawn seating | 200 seats | $12 to $14 each |
| 2, Blue | Balcony office seating | 24 seats | $15 to $18 each |
| 3, Green | Private Boat House balcony | Up to 20 | $415 |
| 4, Red | Alfa-Charlie room with harbor-facing balcony | Up to 50 | $825 |
| 5, Peach | Foxtrot room downstairs, standing room at the sea wall | Up to 40 | $875 |
| 6, Gold | Yacht room upstairs, standing room at the upper balcony | Up to 40 | $975 |
A few house rules come with the seats. Water is allowed, but outside food is not. Sea Scout Ship 711 runs a cash-only snack bar with items from $2 to $5. Guests 21 and over with valid ID can buy alcoholic drinks, with a two-drink limit. Children under 2 are free unless they need their own seat. The rooms differ in what you can bring. The Alfa-Charlie room allows food and nonalcoholic drinks. The Boat House balcony, Foxtrot and Yacht rooms allow food, and allow alcoholic drinks with purchase. The Alfa-Charlie listing also mentions a 7 p.m. start on "Wed 12/17," a date that doesn't line up with the 2026 calendar, where Wednesday is December 16. Groups booking that room should confirm the start time with the Sea Base directly.
On-site parking at the Sea Base is limited and costs $25 per vehicle. The Sea Base also points guests to parking along West Coast Highway and to the Avon lot at 166 Tustin Avenue, which has free and metered spaces. Watching from public shoreline is free everywhere along the route. The committee says all city parking lots stay open during the parade and recommends arriving as early as possible. The committee's 2026 map also marks Via Lido Park, which sits near the end of the route, close to the finish.
The November run-up on the same shoreline
The holiday events on the western harbor start well before the parade, at the same two places that anchor its last stretch: Balboa Bay Resort and Lido Marina Village.
- Sunday, November 22, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mistletoe Market fills the Lighthouse at Balboa Bay Resort with local makers, boutiques and specialty vendors, plus festive cocktails, holiday bites and live entertainment.
- Saturday, November 28, noon to 5 p.m. Lido Marina Village holds its Vintage Holiday Market on the Lido Deck at 3400 Via Oporto, with one-of-a-kind vintage gifts, live music, sweet treats and visits from Santa.
- Sunday, November 29. Balboa Bay Resort's annual tree lighting features OCSA's MONTAGE! in a new musical show, Frosty, Rudolph, Santa and Mrs. Claus, the lighting of a 20-foot tree and a closing flurry of snow. Reservations aren't required, open seating starts after 5:00 p.m., and the resort is collecting new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots.
Santa also makes regular visits to Lido Marina Village through the season. He's scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, November 28 and 29; Thursday and Friday, December 3 and 4; Sunday, December 6; and Thursday through Saturday, December 10 to 12. During parade week he's scheduled on four days: Thursday, December 17, through Sunday, December 20. The only visit with posted hours is Saturday, December 19, from noon to 4 p.m. On any of those four days you can see Santa at the village in the afternoon and watch the boats pass the same waterfront at 8:46 that night.
For five nights in December, the boat lights end their run on the stretch of harbor that the homes on the bluff look out over. If you're curious what that view adds to a home above Mariner's Mile, bouHAUS can talk through it with you before the 8:15 drone show, or any time after the boats reach the tip of Lido Isle.
