Newport Heights

 

Sitting on a cliff overlooking the famed Mariner’s Mile on Pacific Coast Highway, this Newport Beach enclave might just be the crown jewel of the entire city. With views of both the Pacific Ocean and the Back Bay, the 344 homes in Newport Heights and Cliff Haven are some of the area’s most impressive. Beautiful tree-lined streets in quiet neighborhoods are home to the area’s largest houses, with lots ranging from 7,000 to 11,000 square feet. The area is also close to the storied Balboa Bay Club, an Orange County landmark that brings sailors, boat enthusiasts, and beach lovers together. The BBC also serves as a terrific staycation spot for those looking to relax and retreat to a beautiful resort with a full-service spa and gym as well as a private beach and restaurants.

 

Newport Heights and neighboring Cliff Haven are both family-friendly, as well, with residents enjoying the walkability of the beach-close community. Much of the neighborhood was originally built as summer cottages in the 1930s, and the residents have fought to keep the integrity and charm of the area. There are few sidewalks and lampposts, but a lot of mature trees line the streets, which run north and south, allowing ocean views at the end of each street. The community is also home to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, one of the area’s oldest churches, and Newport Harbor High School, a county monument. Years ago, the school’s distinctive tower stood tall above the cliff and it was said to be a marker for sailors off Newport Harbor. On Friday nights, you’ll see families walking to Newport Harbor High School for football games and pep rallies, since much of the community is involved with the school and its sports programs. Mornings see the surf team hitting the waves before school starts and you’ll often see students walking back from practice in their tennis whites and cross-country jerseys.

 

A number of homes in Newport Heights are situated near the Environmental Nature Center, a quiet haven in the community that offers programs for kids and teens that immerse them in environmental conservation and education. The community is truly one-of-a-kind, with a small-town feel alongside modern conveniences and some of the area’s hidden gems and local favorites.
